BACC Sends $10,000 for Haitian Relief

January 15, 2010 8:45am – I received a follow up phone call from Stanley Dumornay, Evangelist and former leader of the church in Port-au-Prince Haiti and now serving in the New York Church. Stanley along with Dr. Mark Ottenweller from the Philadelphia Church will be flying into Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern side of the island; Haiti occupies the western part of the island. There is still no way to fly into Haiti. The U.S. Military has taken over the airport and is doing an heroic job getting supply planes in to Haiti. Due to the amount of relief supplies coming in from around the world and the logistical challenges of using one air strip, the time in which people arrive on commercial or private planes cannot be determined. So while Dr. Ottenweller and Stanley Dumornay are in route, the BACC has wired money to the church in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Angel Martinez who leads the church in Santo Domingo has mobilized the church there and will begin purchasing supplies for relief efforts. Once Dr. Ottenweller and Stanley arrive, they with three Haitian brothers who live in Santo Domingo will drive the first of many relief runs in a truck loaded with provisions for 100 people to the church in Port-au-Prince. We do not know the security challenges along the way so they will make the first run loaded as inconspicuously as possible. The roads are not paved, and it will take five hours to get to the border of Haiti and an additional two hours to get to Port-au-Prince. While they are there, they will also be assessing the situation, the security challenges and the road conditions. Meanwhile Angel Martinez and the church in Santo Domingo will be purchasing more supplies with the funds wired from the BACC and loading more trucks waiting for Dr. Ottenweller and Stanley to make contact from their first trip. Please pray for their safety, their ability to make our funds go along way, for the trip to be successful, for the relief to be substantial to those disciples and others receiving our help.
If you want to help with a financial donation send a check made out to the BACC to 2471 E. Bayshore Dr. Ste 520 Palo Alto, Ca. 94303 and mark it Haiti Relief. Or send questions or ideas to relief@bacc.cc
