"Dreaming Out Loud" Teen Camp 2009

This year our theme for Teen Camp is entitled "Dreaming Out Loud.”

A packed three-day and three-night event, some of the highlights below give a taste to what your son or daughter can expect when they come to Teen Camp.

Classes
The class sessions at teen camp are the spiritual foundation of the camp. The bible is used to teach why teens need a relationship with God, becoming aware of the daily spiritual battle, the meaning of the cross, and understanding the enduring love of God. Classes are exciting and provide variety, from teaching to personal sharing, panel discussions, small group discussions, interactive games and activities and movie clips. A diverse group of teachers teach and lead these classes and discussions, making available a wealth of personal experiences teens can relate to.

We make classes relevant to the teens. Last summer, some of the issues addressed included family relationships, body image, the pressure to be popular, labeling and prejudice. These issues bring up many emotions and we believe in teaching teens how to share and express all that is going on inside them.

Building Friendships
Teen camp is a great way to build friendships. Teens get to know one another and work together in teams. All campers stay in cabins, forming smaller groups for after class discussions and cabin talks at night. Coed teams known as tribes build family and camaraderie as they eat together, create identity, and compete against other tribes.

Downtime
Teen camp will be held at the Koinonia Conference Grounds in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. During downtime at the camp, teens can take advantage of this incredible facility to challenge themselves on five different Ropes courses, become a sharpshooter in archery, play beach volleyball, shoot hoops on the outdoor basketball courts, go for a swim, learn new arts and crafts skills, or play softball, football, soccer and Frisbee on the large field.

Counselors
Our counselors enjoy what they do. They volunteer their time to attend camp and many request time off work to come and serve. There is a high ratio of counselors to campers at the camp. We make sure all counselors are screened and trained to make camp a safe and enjoyable experience for the teens.
